Navigating Food During the Holidays: A Healthier Perspective

During the holiday season, when gatherings often revolve around decadent meals and sweet treats, pay attention to how you react physically, mentally, and emotionally around food.

Whether your inclination is to count every calorie, obsess over grams of sugar, or feel guilty about a single meal, your reaction is valid. But here’s a thought—what if micromanaging every bite isn’t the key to our healthiest selves but rather a form of control that leads us astray from genuine well-being?

THIS MONTH’S TOPIC

FOOD FOR THOUGHT

We can start by embracing food as neutral, not the enemy or even friend, for that matter.

As someone who LOVES food, I’ll be honest and admit that remaining neutral is challenging to navigate alone. But this shift in perspective is crucial as we aim to cultivate a relationship with food based on understanding and self-compassion rather than restriction, misinformation, and guilt. Plus, recent research has shown that when we enjoy a variety of foods without the burden of strict rules, we find a more sustainable path to health even when weight is unaffected (source).
