Let’s talk about the “D-word” — discipline — and why it’s hurting so many women who are already giving their all.
If you’ve ever said:
- “I just need to be more consistent.”
- “Why can’t I stick with anything?”
- “What’s wrong with me — I know what to do…”
…it’s highly unlikely you have a discipline issue. More likely than not, your nervous system is working overtime to keep you safe, which is referred to as dysregulation.
Dysregulation Looks Like:
- Mood swings or “snapping” even when you don’t want to
- Getting super motivated, then crashing 3 days later
- Feeling frozen or foggy when you try to make decisions
- Cravings or emotional eating after long days of “being good”
- Identifying as a people pleaser
These are not fixed personality traits.
They’re nervous system patterns — survival states like fight, flight, freeze, or fawn playing out through your choices, energy, and food rhythms.
And here’s the kicker: Most stress management advice wasn’t made for female bodies, especially bodies that cycle.
The Real Reason Motivation Doesn’t Last
Motivation is a luxury of regulation.
And regulation is built through safety + attunement, not force.
In my 1:1 work, we gently unwind perfectionism, people-pleasing, and burnout cycles by teaching the body something it’s rarely given:
✨ You don’t have to be productive to be safe.
✨ Rest is allowed.
✨ You can feel good without earning it.
That’s when change sticks — because it’s rooted in the nervous system, not shame.
Quick Win: Your “Mini Safe State” Ritual
This 90-second practice can begin to restore safety on a daily basis.
☁️The S.O.F.T. Method☁️
S – Soften your jaw and shoulders (if you can)
O – Open your chest slightly, uncross limbs
F – Feel one area of contact (feet, chair, breath)
T – Tell yourself: “I’m safe right now.”
Do this anytime you feel tight, off, or like you’re about to white-knuckle your way through the day.
Ready for Deeper Support?
If you’re done trying to “fix” yourself with stricter routines and are ready to feel grounded, clear, and free around stress (and food), I’d love to work with you.
1:1 coaching is open this month for a handful of new clients. We work directly with your nervous system to build capacity, reduce overwhelm, and regulate your rhythms in a way that honors your biology.
