You’re Seeking Safety. What people mistake as a lack of willpower is actually the body’s way of driving us toward something predictable to feel secure.
Have you ever said something like this to yourself?
- “I was doing so well, and then I just lost control again.”
- “Why do I eat when I’m not even hungry?”
- “I feel fine until 2pm — then it’s candy, lattes, chips… whatever I can grab.”
If this sounds familiar, I want you to know something: It’s a nervous system response.
When you’ve experienced trauma — whether it’s a single event or years of chronic pressure — your body begins to seek protection through patterns. Food becomes a soothing tool. A pause. A breath. A safe place.
And when your body hasn’t been taught how to feel safe internally, food becomes a substitute.
Trauma Doesn’t Just Affect the Mind — It Lives in the Body Too
When your nervous system is stuck in fight, flight, freeze, or fawn, your relationship with food often becomes distorted. You may:
- Crave carbs or sugar to calm anxiety
- Skip meals when you’re stuck in freeze
- Feel “good” all day and then binge at night
- Use food as the only source of pleasure in a high-stress life
And still, the wellness world tells you to just “eat intuitively.” (I know because I’ve been guilty of this advice for years. 😬) But how can you listen to your intuition if your nervous system is hijacked?
Releasing Food Shame Starts with Safety
The first step to food freedom isn’t food tracking or more control. (Sorry, influencers!) It’s feminine regulation.
No, regulation isn’t as glamorous, but it’s SUPER important because when you begin to create internal safety through your female nervous system, food stops feeling like a battleground.
You can respond to your body, not just react from old wounds.
This is the heart of the work I do with my clients.
We release shame.
We rewire patterns.
We restore trust between you and your body.
